Mini Spinny Jr

Mini Spinny Jr was built as a dedicated 150g Antweight for my daughter, giving her her own robot to compete with while continuing to build alongside the rest of the team. Designed to be simple, effective and fun to use, it focused on introducing key combat robotics principles in a way that was approachable and engaging.

Finished in her signature lilac colour, the robot featured a compact layout designed to meet the 100mm cube requirement, with careful attention given to keeping the build lightweight and well balanced. The chassis was enclosed with 3D printed PLA armour, providing a practical and easily replaceable solution that suited the fast-paced nature of Antweight fights.

For the weapon system, Mini Spinny Jr used a readily available vertical spinning disc, chosen for its straightforward design and ability to deliver controlled upward hits. This setup allowed for effective engagement while also helping to demonstrate how spin-up time, balance and weapon positioning influence performance.

The robot was designed to be manageable and predictable to drive, making it easier to learn positioning and timing during fights. Like many builds in this class, it involved careful compromises to stay within both weight and size limits, reinforcing the importance of efficient design choices.

Mini Spinny Jr combined simplicity, creativity and hands-on learning, giving my daughter her own platform to compete, experiment and develop skills within the Antweight class while sharing the experience of building and battling together.
